Samaya's Story
Samaya June Roy-Yang's bright light was dimmed far too soon when she passed away on November 18th, 2023, after a courageous battle with Febrile Infection-Related Epilepsy Syndrome (FIRES). This rare condition struck without warning, causing unrelenting seizures that, despite intensive medical intervention, ultimately took her from us.
Through the Samaya Fund, we honor her memory while advancing critical research at the intersection of neurology and immunology – a promising frontier that may not only help spare other families from similar heartbreak, but also unlock breakthroughs in treating a broad spectrum of neurological and autoimmune conditions that affect millions worldwide.
Our Team
Our founding team brings together diverse expertise spanning medicine, healthcare innovation, media, and education. As we embark on this mission, we're actively building a community of forward-thinking individuals and organizations passionate about both advancing neuroimmunology research and bringing greater awareness to this promising frontier of medicine.

The Fund Vision
This journey started with FIRES (Febrile Infection-Related Epilepsy Syndrome) but opened our eyes to the burgeoning space of neuroimmunology. The devastating impact of FIRES revealed the complex relationship between the immune and nervous systems. As we've explored this connection more deeply, neuroimmunology - the study of how these systems interact - represents one of medicine's most promising frontiers. Recent technological advances have accelerated our understanding dramatically, revealing connections that were impossible to see just a few years ago. From autoimmune conditions to neurodegenerative diseases, better understanding of these interactions could transform how we think about and treat a wide range of conditions that affect millions of people worldwide.
